James (Jim) Richard Koerner, 59, of Montgomery, AL passed away after a prolonged battle with cancer on September 29, 2017. He was born on January 5, 1958 to the late Paul E. Koerner and Ginger Koerner, both of Montgomery, AL. His sister Jeanelle Medcalf of Wetumpka, AL also preceded him in death.

He is survived by his loving wife of 30 years, Ellie Koerner. His mother Ginger; his sister Janet Jenkins (Mark) of Bealeton, VA; his brother-in-law Doug Medcalf of Wetumpka, AL; his nephews Jeremy Jenkins (Rebecca) of Nokesville, VA, Jacob Jenkins (Kelly)...

James (Jim) Richard Koerner, 59, of Montgomery, AL passed away after a prolonged battle with cancer on September 29, 2017. He was born on January 5, 1958 to the late Paul E. Koerner and Ginger Koerner, both of Montgomery, AL. His sister Jeanelle Medcalf of Wetumpka, AL also preceded him in death.

He is survived by his loving wife of 30 years, Ellie Koerner. His mother Ginger; his sister Janet Jenkins (Mark) of Bealeton, VA; his brother-in-law Doug Medcalf of Wetumpka, AL; his nephews Jeremy Jenkins (Rebecca) of Nokesville, VA, Jacob Jenkins (Kelly) of Clifton, VA, and Joel Jenkins of Bealeton, VA; his niece Hannah Oergel (Joseph) of Midland, VA also survive him. Six great nephews and nieces (Callie, Caleb, Luke, Nathan, Norah, and Daisy) also survive Jim.

Jim received his Bachelor's Degree in psychology from Troy State University. Jim served in the U.S. Army from 1983 to 1990 and then in the Alabama National Guard from 1990 to 2005 when he retired. Most recently, Jim worked for Krispy Kreme in Montgomery. Jim was also a member of St. James UMC in Montgomery.

The family would like to extend their thanks and gratitude for the love, kindness and care shown to Jim and his family by Jim's colleagues at Krispy Kreme and the staff of Montgomery Cancer Center. A special thank you to Dr. Robert Avery and his staff. There will be a visitation and Memorial Service for all family and friends on Tuesday October 3, 2017. Visitation will be from 1 - 2 pm followed by a memorial service at 2 pm at White Chapel - Greenwood Funeral Home Montgomery, AL. Afterward, the family invites everyone to a celebration of Jim's life at St. James UMC at 4 pm.
